Local officials received a boost Tuesday for the ongoing plan to create a pedestrian footpath and biking trail along the Naugatuck River. The borough will receive a $147,000 federal grant to help offset costs of a riverwalk expansion project that would stretch along the Metro North railway from the General Pulaski Walking Bridge near the Waterbury line to Beacon Falls.

A vote on a proposed downtown development district for Renaissance Place is expected on Jan. 10. The Zoning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. on the fourth-floor of Town Hall to end its two-month hearing process on the proposed zone, which creates guidelines for Fairfield developer Alexius C. Conroy to build a $707 million mixed-use project.

The State Bond Commission on Wednesday approved a $75,000 grant to assist the planning of the proposed Renaissance Place development in Naugatuck. The state grant will help finance an evaluation of environmental effects of the proposed development on 60 acres near the borough's downtown.
